I was wondering if we're still using the old SDEZ system of earning levels directly or if we're now using some sort of system incorporating EXP, which I would assume would add a level once you got 100... On a related note, regarding training, in the old system one chose to pay for either one, two or three hours (100 yenko per hour) and each hour of training made available a different rewards range. So one hour could get you one to two levels (depending on quality) whereas three hours could get you 3-4 levels. Is that same system in place? Because it was nice. Now I'm also wondering at the practical effect of roleplaying stats in battle. Do they have an effect, or are they simply to establish a basis for comparison in the story?

They are used mostly as a basis for comparison, though sometimes you would need a score equal or greater than a difficulty. Say you wanted to pick up a dumpster and hurl it. You would need the appropriate strength.
As far as training goes, yes, it is exactly the same as the original SDEZ.
