Zandra was crouched down, her fingers spread wide and her palm close to the ground, static making the dust float up and cling to her. She smiled a bit. It was entertaining. At the moment, there seemed to be little going on in Kast Korp. She looked up at her surroundings. She had a small room, smaller then usual by request. It had originally had a small cot in it but she removed it and just had a pile of blankets and towels made into something like a nest sitting in the corner. She liked sleeping in something she could burrow in. Beside her "nest" was a small window. It covered most of the cement wall facing away from the door. On the remaining wall, there was a desk, dresser and cabinet made as one piece, covering the remaining wall. She didn't use the cabinet, disliking how tall it was. She didn't have enough clothing for it anyway. The desk contained only a photograph.
The photo made her pause for a moment. There were four people in it. There was a large black wolf with aqua hair and eyes trying to settle a wildly grinning, trouble making red headed boy. An older blonde haired man was just trying to get out of the way and a small black fox with silver hair was almost on her side laughing. Despite the image not coming out according to plan, it was perfect.
Zandra found herself holding it much to her surprise and gently set it down, walking the few paces over to the window. It was broad daylight, hardly her usual hours for being awake. The new surroundings though made her a little too edgy to sleep well. She still had to figure out what were good or bad noises in the area surrounding her.
Suddenly, there was a loud bang from below her, making her jump. It wasn't a gun shot. It sounded like something metal falling onto the floor. Her ears went back with distaste as she glared at the cement floor.
She looked back out the window, seeing her view of the city. It was normal Osaka. There were warehouses she knew were used for more then storage, buildings in whatever shape and size anyone saw needed and people scattered about. Considering the time of day, the people were more scarce then usual. That was alright by her.
She jumped again when there was another loud bang, the same as the first. She snorted, disliking being taken off guard. With that, her window was opened and she was falling the four stories to the ground. Winds caught her up and slowed her decent to an easy going pace before she landed.
Without a look back, Zandra was off. She cloaked, figuring she could find something to keep herself occupied. Watching was her favorite hobby. People were the most entertaining when they weren't aware they were being seen.
As she snooped around, a familiar scent caught her nose. She paused for a second, seeing which direction it had gone in, hesitant. Distracted by it, she accidentally uncloaked herself, making a nearby hobo jump. Her ears went back, somewhere between distressed and curious.
Finally making a decision, she recloaked and walked away from it, wanting to know what the owner had been up to.
The distance was farther then she had initially anticipated, dusk having arrived by the time she got there. She knew she was outside of Osaka at this point, but where she was exactly she wasn't sure. She didn't normally go this far from home, looking back anxiously where she believed Kast Korp to be, but she was almost to a warehouse that seemed to be where the person she smelled came from.
Zandra took a deep breath, approaching the building. Smells of multiple species and models of people struck her. There was a lot that went on here. Another deep breath made her cringe a bit. She could smell blood and mechanical fluids. There was a light overlaying scent of urine. Unpleasant things happened here.
She gently touched the side of the warehouse, wondering where the door was. She walked around the rusty metallic sides, finding no openings. There were no doors, no windows, not even a ventilation shaft. She dug a bit into the ground at the sides. It seemed the metal even covered the floor. Her suspicions sky rocketed.
It seemed Plamen, the gang that caused the death of her adopted father, was up to something they needed to keep this secretive.
Just then, she heard food steps. Surprised, she teleported, ending up on the roof of the building. She blinked, a little disoriented from using an ability she had so little experience with. It was then she noticed the cameras poised on each corner of the roof, facing downward. Her cloak had worn off a while ago. They must have seen her looking around. She couldn't blame them for sending out a guard.
The fox crouched down so just the top of her head and her eyes stuck over the side of the roof, watching the guard, a large black panther anthro. He was an unusual breed, catching her attention beyond being a threat. There was a certain elegance about him that made her uneasy, he seemed to carry himself with the confidence of a well trained fighter. Lacking any visible scars in his lush coat, he must have been a very good fighter.
Suddenly, he looked up, directly at her. His vicious gold eyes felt like they pierced her, slashed her right across the chest. She found herself holding her breath, unmoving, until he finally looked away. He gently touched his ear and seemed to mutter to himself before moving on. He made another loop around the building before apparently giving up the search. He stood facing a wall and knocked on it.
Before she could see how exactly he got in, she heard a door open behind her. She started to stand when an impact sent her over the edge of the building. She summoned the winds to catch her, creating a large updraft that caught what had hit her too. It was a snarling cheetah anthro. Despite his ferocity, his youth and apparent inexperience in battle, left him unable to fight back he winds. He was blown back onto the roof. Zandra remained suspended in the air, watching both the panther and the cheetah. To have two such unusual breeds of anthro was very strange indeed.
A large lion anthro walked out of the door on the roof, glaring up at her. She noticed he was the first of them to be armed, carrying a simple pistol at his side.
"Leave," His deep voice boomed over the winds. Zandra stared at him for a moment, even more perplexed by the apparent concentration of large cat anthros here.
She saw the panther expose his teeth a bit, apparently snarling a bit, making her realize she hadn't answered them. "Ah, yes. Going," She smiled, warily, easing the winds so she landed a number of yards from the panther. He kept his eyes direct on her. Her ears were back to her head, nervous as she backed away, careful to keep her hands where they could see them.
The lion let loose a roar. Zandra turned tail and ran off, not wanting an official encounter with all of them. Though she could manage in a one on one match, three on one would not have favorable results.
She made sure to keep on the trail of the familiar scent, not knowing her surroundings and not wanting to get lost. The trail zigzagged, dragging her all over the area. It dawned on her, the man she was trailing had been trying to sneak up on the felines. They must not have been friends.
Just as she ducked behind a building, she bounced back, seeming to hit an invisible wall. She looked up in surprise, then looked toward where the cats warehouse was, then back again. She was out of sight of them, they weren't something to worry about right then. Then, the man she had been tracking uncloaked in front of her. It was Loki, a black dog anthro. He was tall, especially for an anthro, with pitch black fur and a curled tail. The tips of the long hair streaming from the tail were white. He had a tightly built body, something one could easily mistake as a wall when running full force into. His shocking white-blue eyes were glittering with an internal laughter, seeing her land flat on her butt.
"What the hell are you doing here?" She snapped at him, disguising her glee from getting to see him.
The glittering seemed to subside as he tried to smile. It looked more like a grimace. "Working. How about you?" He didn't seem like he would be willing to elaborate.
Zandra smiled meekly, "Getting my butt kicked by a bunch of kitties," She tried to make it into a joke.
Loki's smile faded. "I would leave them be if I were you," His tone was completely serious now. It was now she noticed his attire. He was wearing a tightly fitting black shirt that covered him from the base of his skull, down to his hips and completely covered his hands, forming into gloves. His pants were made of the same material, wrapping around his paws. His tail was tucked in. He wore a hat that allowed his floppy ears to stick out but kept all of his hair in tight. In his hand was a face mask that would allow only his nose to be exposed and a slit between the top of it and the bottom of his hat for his eyes. She had never seen him in his work outfit before. He worked as the head of intelligence for Plamen.
"They're not you guys?" She was honestly surprised.
He frowned a bit, "Well, they're mercenaries, Maahes Alliance. Agni hired them and I'm not as trusting of them as he is," Agni was the leader of Plamen, someone who she had originally met when they were much younger under the name Aiden with the alias of Avian.
"What kind of mercenaries?" Her curiosity had been perked.
He looked down at her and frowned. "Just because you're part of a neutral party now, doesn't mean I can tell you everything," He pointed out he knew she was in Kast Korp.
Zandra frowned back at him, "Who am I honestly going to tell? What kind are they?" Once she became curious about something, she had to know.
Loki sighed, sitting down next to her, "True. Well, they're an intell group. They much rather plain torture then the art of infiltration though," She could almost taste his hatred of them.
"What else?" There had to be more to them then torture to make him feel such disdain.
He looked up at her, seeming to notice her perception. "You know me too well. That's a dangerous thing,"
The fox smiled at his underlying threat, "Once again, who will I tell? And you have more on me anyway," The truth seemed to relax him a bit but he still disliked it.
"I don't like how they're an intell collecting agency. They cost less then me and Agni has been talking about cutting costs," His words faded off into a sneer.
Zandra's ears twitched, understanding his fear of this situation better now. If he was fired, he would be killed. He knew too much. He either had to find something about this group that Agni would not stand for, figure out how to take this group down or leave his primary income and run. None of these would be easy choices.
"So now what?" She asked, wanting to know where he was going with everything.
Loki frowned again, getting back to his feet, "I don't know. This is a difficult group to gather intelligence on. All I really have about them is they're called the 'Maahes Alliance'. Maahes is some god of war and devourer or some such from before the ARK fell. They're real leader isn't the lion even though he says he is. They seem to be a branch of a larger organization. They cost less to employ then I do and they're specialty consists of capture and torture. I haven't seen a single infiltration done yet,"
She stood up as well, "Perhaps there's a reason you haven't seen any infiltrations?"
"Don't put such paranoid thoughts into my head!" He snapped at her.
She rolled her eyes and sighed. "Anyway, what can I do to help?"
The dog looked the little fox up and down. "Why would you help me?"
She stretched, pretending not to notice him internally backing away from her. "I'm bored. Kast doesn't do anything but make and sell crap. Why not?" Seeing he wasn't satisfied she added, "And you got me out of captivity,"
He looked at her speculatively. "Alright then. Wanna be a distraction?"
She looked up at him, unsure if this would be a good or bad idea. "Alright I suppose,"
The photo made her pause for a moment. There were four people in it. There was a large black wolf with aqua hair and eyes trying to settle a wildly grinning, trouble making red headed boy.
